Our Parent Concern - Toplis & Harding, was started in London in the year 1790 by two Partners, James Toplis and William Daniel Harding, for the purpose of carrying out assessment and adjustment of Insurance Claims. In the course of time, they opened branches all over the world.

In the year 1948, a branch office was opened in Bombay in the name of Toplis & Harding (Eastern) Private Limited. This Company carried on the business of assessing Insurance claims notified against Lloyds Underwriters in London and other foreign Insurers. The Company dealt with all types of Marine and Non-Marine and Aviation (Hull) claims, and geographical limits included the Middle and the Far East. The Valuation of Assets was also undertaken.

Due to the constant employment of the architectural firm of Kapadia & Baria for various civil works of Valuation, it was decided by the London Partners to take over this firm. This was done in the year 1963 and the Company was then known as "Kapadia & Baria and Toplis & Harding Private Ltd."

Upto the year 1972, the management was under a Britisher Mr. E.J.S. Andrews, with Mr. P.P. Kapadia, Mr. E.J.N. Baria and Mr. K. Ganapathy as Directors.

In the same year, General Insurance in India was nationalized. As a result of this, the London Partners, as is their practice in all parts of the world where Insurance is nationalized, transferred their interest in the management in favor of existing Directors.

The name of the company was changed to UNIVERSAL SURVEYORS & ADJUSTERS PVT. LTD. with Mr. K. Ganapathy as the Managing Director and Mr. Kapadia and Mr. Baria as the Directors on the Board..

The company started specializing in the Appraisal and Valuation of Fixed Assets of major Corporates and the business of Insurance Surveys was sidelined. Over the years the company has valued a wide range of Industries including Core Industries like Petrochemical and Chemical Process Industries, Cement, Fertilizer Plants, Ferro Alloys and Steel Plants, etc.
